Paralegal– Employment Section

The Dallas City Attorney’s Office is seeking an experienced, energetic, and self-motivated paralegal to fill a full-time position in the Employment Section. This section handles all employment-related legal matters, including employment claims and litigation filed against the city and individual defendants in federal and state court. The section also advises city departments on employment issues and reviews internal procedures, personnel rules changes, and employment- related investigations.

Substantial experience in pre-trial and trial phases of civil litigation as a paralegal in Texas federal and state courts, excellent personal and telephone communication skills, writing ability, organizational ability, attention to detail, and proficiency in Word, Excel, Adobe, and e-discovery platforms are required. Candidates must also have a paralegal certificate. Experience with complex employment litigation is preferred.

The successful candidate will assist assistant city attorneys with all aspects of legal work with an emphasis on civil litigation, including preparation of and responding to discovery requests; responding to subpoena requests; researching legal issues; preparing correspondence, legal memoranda, pleadings, and documents pertaining to cases; collecting documentary evidence and other information; securing copies of regulations, statutes, and case reports; screening and processing of correspondence; working on briefs, including checking citations and generating tables of contents and indexes of authorities; and other duties as assigned; all under attorney supervision. The position involves substantial contact with members of the public, city officials, and staff. Other duties may be assigned.

Salary is commensurate with experience. The city’s comprehensive benefits package comes with the position. This position is exempt from the provisions applicable to civil service, pursuant to Chapter XVI, Section 9 of the Dallas City Charter.
