General Summary
The Protective Order Attorney is responsible for the screening of Family Violence Protective Orders filed by this office; reviewing and discussing information obtained by social service staff to make a determination of the eligibility of victims of family violence to obtain a protective order (under Chapter 71 and 85 of the Family Code); contacting victims of family violence regarding eligibility; and for the drafting of all protective orders and legal documents relating to the prosecution of such orders. The Protective Order Attorney is also responsible for representing protective order applicants in court during protective order hearings. The Protective Order Attorney shall be available during working hours for consultations with court personnel, defense attorneys, and witnesses. This prosecutor works closely with family violence law enforcement units for intake on Interference of Child Custody, Bigamy and any other calls that may be appropriate.

Ability to handle a case from filing through disposition by dismissal, plea, or trial

Ability to communicate compassionately and effectively with victims of domestic violence
Required Education, Experience
Prior experience with civil practice preferred.
