Webb County District Attorney’s Office has a Public Information Officer Position opening beginning November 1, 2019.

JOB TITLE: Public Information Officer

JOB SUMMARY: Under direction, writes, edits, and publishes information material for broadcast, print and social media and the public; coordinates the dissemination of information; and performs related duties as required.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Performs research; collects and evaluates data; and prepares information for release to the media.

Engages daily with social media networks to keep the community updated and aware of the office’s community outreach and ongoing trials; communicates with followers by responding to their messages and comments.

Prepares and distributes fact sheets, news releases, and public information announcements to media representatives and others.

Designs, writes, and produces public information materials such as display advertising, brochures, flyers, direct mail materials, newsletters, and Web pages using a variety of graphics, desktop publishing software, and programming languages to develop or modify materials; and routes the production of such publications through scheduling, writing, design, editing, and distribution.

Interacts with professional and technical staff, community interest groups, other governmental agencies, industry, and other sources to obtain information; and responds to information requests from the general public, community interest groups, other governmental agencies, and industry.

Responds to Open Records requests.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, communications, public/media relations, or closely related field; or, a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation and syntax; writing, editing and publishing procedures; graphic display techniques; media requirements for information; computer software graphics packages and applications.

Ability to communicate information clearly both verbally and in writing; independently organize and plan work and set priorities; assess the need for, gather, and disseminate information; understand technical subject matter and process in relationship to specific projects.

Fluent and literate in Spanish preferable.

Must pass criminal background check and take/pass drug screen. Must have valid TX driver’s license.

SALARY:

Grade 18 – Starting Salary Range $42,389 – 46,240 /annually, salary will be commensurate with experience.
