POSITION:            Sgt. Investigator

SALARY:                Starting salary between $67,392 – $71,519.23


Responsible for investigating all misdemeanor, juvenile (felony & misdemeanor), CPS, protective order and hot check cases filed within Williamson County.  This includes coordination of warrants (search & arrest) with local law enforcement, intake and final case presentation to court.

Locates witnesses and serves subpoenas. Conducts investigations and provides support for the trial of criminal cases. Provides evaluation and analysis of the investigative work completed by law enforcement agencies. Performs other duties as directed by the County Attorney or the Chief Investigator.

General Duties:

Works closely with the prosecutors on various cases. Reviews criminal cases as assigned. Locates and interviews victims, witnesses, and other persons deemed to be relevant to the case.

Investigates Protective Order applicants and Respondents as needed including obtaining reports, statements and photographing injuries.

Works with Justice of the Peace Courts and assists prosecutors in daily workload at the 4 off site courts.

Obtains evidence (911 calls, video, audio, statements, photos, etc.) for all criminal, civil, Protective Order cases and Child Protective service cases.  Photographs/videotapes crime scenes as necessary.

Assists in the presentation and preparation of courtroom/trial material

Testifies in court when necessary.

Supports the Civil Division with investigative needs such as witness location, evidence collection and general investigation in county lawsuits or other county business.

Assists local law enforcement agencies with criminal investigation as required.

Serves subpoenas as required.

Assists in preparation and execution of arrest and search warrants, when needed.

Investigates identity theft or mistaken identity problems, issues reports and assists the public via telephone and in person with questions or concerns about the law, a case, or problem.

Works with specialized criminal cases such as Environmental, Animal Cruelty, and Texas Parks and Wildlife.


A combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field of study from an accredited college/university. Advanced TCLEOSE Certification, or higher, required. Minimum Six (6) years law enforcement experience required, with 3 years Investigative or CID experience preferred.  Spanish speaker preferred, but not required. Good computer skills; working knowledge of Excel, Word and Power Point; good verbal and written communication and organizational skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, victims of crime and their families. Must be able to complete projects and tasks in a timely and accurate manner. Knowledge of TCIC/NCIC databases.

Starting salary between $67,392 – $71,519.23, and continues with an annual step increase from the County wide peace officer pay scale.
