Posting for Prosecutor Position
The Special Prosecution Unit has an opening for a special prosecutor to handle cases arising from within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Texas Juvenile Justice Department. SPU is an independent prosecutors’ office, managed by Executive Director Jack Choate, and exists to assist local elected prosecutors with these specialized caseloads. SPU prosecutors are not affiliated with TDCJ, TJJD, or the Attorney General’s Office. SPU is headquartered in Huntsville, but the location of this position will be dependent upon the applicant and may be a remotely staffed position.
The position prefers at least 2 years of experience as a prosecutor or practicing attorney with a criminal and/ or juvenile law background. Applicant must be able to present any type of felony case in a competent and professional manner to a grand jury and a trial jury.
Job responsibilities include: performing case evaluation, presentation of case to Grand Jury, case preparation, appearances at motion dockets, plea dockets and jury trials.
Some travel will be required.
