                                    Wichita County Courthouse

SUPERVISORS:        Criminal District Attorney & First Assistant District Attorney

 
HOURS:                     8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday
                                    (Additional hours may be required.)

SALARY:                    Highly competitive & negotiable depending on experience

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Serves as Chief of the Felony Division of the DA’s Office, managing the prosecutors in the three felony courts and shepherding all major felony trials

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Overseeing major grand jury investigations such as capital murder, violent crimes, and sexual abuse
  • Manages and mentors the felony prosecutors
  • Tries major cases including capital murder and sexual abuses
  • Handles a felony docket in court and conducts plea bargain negotiations
  • Trains prosecutors and law enforcement
  • Fosters an open and positive relationship with law enforcement
  • Assists law enforcement with drafting search warrants
  • Competently tries cases before a jury or a judge.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

  MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a graduate of an A.B.A. accredited law school.
  • Must have a license to practice law in the State of Texas and be in good standing with the State and local bar associations.
  • Significant major felony trial experience and managerial experience, including 8 years as a prosecutor/trial attorney
  • Must have the ability to analyze facts and case precedents and present them effectively in court.
  • Must be able to conduct self in a professional manner and develop and maintain good working relationships with visitors, clients, co-workers, attorneys, judges and County officials.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and drug test paid by Wichita County.
  • Must be able to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by Wichita County.

  CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move loads weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are mandatory.
  • Must be dependable and of good moral character.
  • Wichita County and the Criminal District Attorney’s Office is a non-smoking environment.
