Misdemeanor Chief


JOB OPENING – Assistant Criminal District Attorney, Chief Misdemeanor Prosecutor. The DA-Elect of Gregg County, Mr. Tom Watson, is currently accepting resumes for a Chief Misdemeanor Prosecutor position. The starting date for this job is January 1, 2019.

Summary:   The Gregg County D.A.’s Office seeks an attorney who is experienced with the trial of misdemeanor cases, has a thorough knowledge of all phases of criminal prosecution and law enforcement procedures, and a desire to successfully train and oversee misdemeanor prosecutors.

Qualifications:       The individual must have experience successfully prosecuting all types of misdemeanor or felony cases; the ability to manage a large trial docket; a thorough working knowledge of criminal law and court procedures; and the ability to take and give direction. The appropriate candidate will be able to oversee the office’s misdemeanor caseload from intake through sentencing, and the desire and ability to successfully try cases.

Other responsibilities include case preparation and evaluation, witness interviews, conferring with law enforcement and victims, drafting legal motions and correspondence, and negotiations of appropriate case resolutions. The applicant must be diplomatic and respectful to others, use good judgment and common sense, and possess the skills needed to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff, other attorneys, law enforcement, and the community we serve.

The applicant must be licensed to practice law in Texas and be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas, and must pass a criminal background check and the required drug screening.

Salary:          Commensurate with experience, but extremely competitive for counties of similar size.
