Assistant City Attorney– Collections and Bankruptcy Section

The Dallas City Attorney’s Office is seeking an energetic, self-motivated litigator with two to

five years of relevant experience to fill a full-time civil litigation position in the Collections and Bankruptcy Section. Applicants must have experience in Texas state court civil litigation and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Applicants must be licensed to practice law in Texas and be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.

The attorney will be responsible for handling legal matters related to collection of funds due to various city departments, including Dallas Water Utilities, Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization, Dallas Fire-Rescue, Code Compliance, Sanitation Services, Aviation, and the convention center. The position also requires handling matters involving bankruptcy, hotel occupancy tax, and collection of judgments obtained for the city.

The successful candidate will handle all aspects of litigation including research and writing, conducting discovery, appearing in court, mediating cases, pre-trial motions, trials, and post- judgment matters. Other duties may be assigned.

Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of financial statements, real estate lien priorities, foreclosures, bankruptcy, Texas exemptions, and the Texas Business Organizations Code.

Salary is commensurate with experience. The city’s comprehensive benefits package comes with the position. This position is exempt from the provisions applicable to civil service, pursuant to Chapter XVI, Section 9 of the Dallas City Charter.
