POSITION  PART-TIME Assistant County Attorney – Felony and Misdemeanor Trial Attorney

The Lee County Attorney’s office is currently accepting applications for a PART-TIME Assistant County Attorney to assist as first or second chair for primarily criminal jury trials.

The hours are variable and would be dependent on pre-trial and trial settings.  The assistant will also assist with the office’s pre-trial diversion program.  The total number of trials per year varies but typically would not exceed one jury trial every other month. The position allows non-court work to be conducted remotely.  The assistant would not be expected to attend court on regular docket call days.

Applicants may maintain a private separate law practice not in conflict with the duties as an assistant County Attorney.

ABOUT US –  Lee County is a central Texas county of approximately 17,000 residents about an hour from both Austin and College Station.  The Lee County Attorney prosecutes Misdemeanor and Felony criminal cases in Lee County courts.  The office has 1 full-time assistant county attorney, 1 part-time assistant county attorney handling primarily CPS and civil matters, and 3 administrative assistants.  We generally have Misdemeanor Court dockets twice a month on Thursdays and Felony dockets weekly on Tuesdays.

JOB DUTIESPerform all duties as assigned but primarily:

  • All aspects of Felony and Misdemeanor Prosecutions to bring a case to trial (not appeals)
  • The assistant may be requested to assist with the Office’s pre-trial diversion program

BENEFITS –  All benefits pursuant to the Lee County Personnel Policy guidelines.    Other benefits may be offered as negotiated.

SALARY –  Starting at $80,000 but will largely be dependent on experience.

REQUIREMENTS –  Doctor of Jurisprudence from an accredited law school, licensed by and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.

QUALIFICATIONS The right applicant is dependable, has common sense, with good time management and interpersonal skills.  Felony first chair criminal trial prosecution experience is required.  The selected candidate must be able to perform the functions of the job with sometimes limited direction from the County Attorney.
