The Lavaca County Attorney’s Office has an open position for an Assistant County Attorney. The assistant will be part of a team of two attorneys, two secretaries, and one investigator that handles prosecution of all levels of penal offenses, juvenile cases, and some civil responsibilities. The position is available starting December 1, 2020.
The assistant will be responsible for his or her own cases from intake through disposition. Duties include evaluating cases, contacting victims, working with law enforcement, protective orders, juvenile cases, legal research, negotiating with attorneys, trying cases, and the occasional appeal.
Applicants must be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas, pass a background check, be able to work independently while also being a team player, and be able to conduct self in a professional manner and develop and maintain good working relationships. Previous criminal prosecution experience is preferred.
