Salary and Benefits
$104,235-$125,370 plus benefits. The salary range for this position will vary on qualifications and experience (some or all of this salary may be paid from SB22 grant funds). Benefits include paid vacations, health insurance, vision, and dental coverage, optional life insurance, and retirement. The Calhoun County Criminal District Attorney’s Office pays for all State licensing dues and costs associated with CLE, including membership to TDCAA.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position requires comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of criminal prosecution and law enforcement procedures where the employee will perform a variety of tasks from intake through jury trial and other functions as assigned. The role is also responsible for ensuring that prosecutions are conducted appropriately, based on the facts and the application of current law.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills
- J.D. degree from an accredited college or university
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and be in good standing
- Minimum 3 years prosecution experience and significant felony trial experience
- Valid Texas driver’s license required for operating county vehicles
- Demonstrate a significant understanding of criminal law
- Knowledge of: application of legal principles to individual cases or problems; the Texas criminal laws, other state laws, regulations, and precedents; methods and practices of pleading cases; and effective techniques of presentation of cases in court.
- Skill/Ability to: understand and interpret complex constitutional provisions, statutes, and administrative regulations and precedents;
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports directly to the Criminal District Attorney unless otherwise instructed
EXAMPLES OF WORK
- Represents the county in the prosecution of misdemeanor, felony, and civil cases before District and County courts;
- Reviews files submitted by law enforcement agencies and makes filing decisions;
- Presents cases to Grand Jury for indictment;
- Represents the State in all matters before the District Courts and the County Courts at Law, to include pretrial hearings on motions submitted by defense counsel, motions to adjudicate guilt and/or motions to revoke probation, and bench or jury trials;
- Interview witnesses, examine physical evidence, and research questions of law;
- Flexibility to work late when court is still in session.
