Assistant District Attorney – Appellate Division
JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT CRIMINAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY
SUMMARY:
The Randall County Criminal District Attorney’s Office has an immediate opening for an attorney in the Appellate Division. The Appellate Attorney will represent the State in post-conviction proceedings, including direct appeals, writs of habeas corpus, and requests for DNA testing. He or she will also draft, review, and advise on proposed jury charges. This role involves extensive legal research, brief writing, oral arguments, and collaboration with trial attorneys to ensure legal issues are properly preserved and litigated.
Applicant should be a self-starter who takes direction well and learns quickly.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice Law and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- Clean criminal history.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Ability to analyze complex legal issues.
- Excellent oral advocacy and communication skills.
- Commitment to ethical prosecution and public service.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in criminal law, appellate practice, or judicial clerkship.
- Familiarity with State criminal statutes, constitutional issues, and the Rules of
Appellate Procedure. - Prior brief-writing and oral argument experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work in a high stress environment and perform several tasks at once.
- Work regular business hours (8-5) and any other hours before and after regular business hours as job requires.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The starting salary range is up to $132,890.00 depending on experience plus a full benefits package from Randall County, which includes paid holidays, personal leave time, retirement, and other benefits in addition to health, life, dental, and vision insurance.
