Austin County is named after Stephen F. Austin, the “Father of Texas.”  Bellville, the county seat of this picturesque rural county, is less than an hour west of Houston. 

The office currently consists of the elected district attorney, four assistant district attorneys and three paralegals.

This job posting is for a felony prosecutor position, prior criminal law and trial experience is required.

The office currently has an opening for one attorney position to be filled by either an entry level misdemeanor prosecutor or an experienced felony prosecutor. SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position is primarily responsible for prosecuting and trying felony cases.  The position also assists with supervising misdemeanor dockets and trials.

The position may perform felony intake and must be capable of handling felony dockets, assisting with search warrants, drafting motions, handling pretrial hearings, and sitting as lead trial counsel. 

Training will be provided.  Appellate and research work will be required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Doctor of Jurisprudence.  Must be a member of Texas Bar with a valid driver’s license.

Must be a self-starter with excellent writing and research skills.  Must be able to deal courteously and effectively with the public. 

Prior criminal law and trial experience is required.
