Job Summary
The San Jacinto County Criminal District Attorney’s Office is accepting applications for an experienced felony prosecutor.
Under the leadership of a newly appointed Criminal District Attorney, the office is developing a professional, team-oriented prosecution program dedicated to its mission: Seeking Justice Through Professional Prosecution.
The office’s work is guided by three principles:

- Building Public Trust
The selected prosecutor will have an important role in building the office’s felony prosecution team and putting these principles into practice.
San Jacinto County is a rural and growing county located north of Houston and within convenient driving distance of Conroe, The Woodlands, and Huntsville. The office serves two district courts with approximately 50 docket and trial settings each year.
Responsibilities
The felony prosecutor will be responsible for managing and prosecuting assigned felony cases from intake through trial or other disposition. Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and evaluating offense reports and evidence;
- Making appropriate charging decisions;
- Presenting cases to the grand jury;
- Preparing indictments and other legal pleadings;
- Communicating with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officers;
- Providing legal assistance to law enforcement during investigations;
- Conducting legal research and preparing for contested hearings;
- Negotiating appropriate plea dispositions;
- Preparing and trying felony cases before judges and juries;
- Handling probation-revocation and other post-disposition proceedings; and
- Maintaining complete and accurate case files while satisfying court and statutory deadlines.
The prosecutor may also be required, when needed, to assist with other dockets and responsibilities of the Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Have at least five years of experience as a licensed Texas attorney;
- Have at least three years of prosecutorial experience;
- Be currently licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas;
- Have meaningful criminal courtroom and trial experience;
- Demonstrate sound legal judgment and a commitment to ethical prosecution;
- Be able to manage an active felony docket and meet deadlines despite competing demands;
- Possess strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and communication skills;
- Be capable of working with appropriate independence and minimal supervision; and
- Work effectively with fellow prosecutors, professional staff, judges, defense attorneys, law enforcement agencies, victims, witnesses, and the public.

Salary and Benefits
The annual salary range is $100,000 to $120,000, (partially funded by grant funds) depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
