The Henderson County District Attorney’s Office is accepting applications for an Assistant District Attorney position.  This office prosecutes felony criminal cases (misdemeanors are handled by the County Attorney’s office.)

The office is staffed by a total of 7 attorneys (including the Elected), two investigators, an office manager and 6 support staff.

The applicant must be licensed to practice law in Texas.  Experience in criminal law as a prosecutor is desired but not required.  Having experience handling grand jury or serious felony offenses such as homicides and sexual assault cases will be given extra consideration.

If hired, the duties of the successful applicant may include screening and intake of incoming cases, investigation, grand jury, plea negotiations, responsibility for handling daily dockets and hearings, trials and appeals.  There are two attorneys assigned to each of three District Courts that will share responsibility for the majority of cases assigned to that court. The ability to work well with a partner is a must, in addition to having the desire and temperament to try cases before a judge or jury.

This position has a salary range of $69,000.00 to $73,740.00 per year plus benefits, including health insurance with optional dental and vision, along with participation in the State District and County Attorney Retirement program.  Membership dues to the state and local bar are paid by the office.

The office is located in Athens, Texas which is situated approximately 40-50 minutes from Tyler, Canton, Palestine, and Kaufman Texas. Athens is approximately an hour from Dallas.
