Assistant District Attorney 118th Judicial District

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The 118th Judicial District includes Howard, Martin and Glasscock Counties. The main office is located in Big Spring, Texas. The position handles the prosecution of felonies in all three counties and misdemeanors in Glasscock county. The office consists of the DA, First Assistant DA, Investigator and three staff members. The job requires the following:

Handling intake of new cases received from law enforcement.

Representing the State in Pretrial Hearings, Summons, Suppression Hearings, Bond Reductions, PR Bond Hearings, Discovery Hearings, Asset Forfeiture Hearings, Bench Trials and Jury Trials.

Conducting Grand Jury proceedings

Preparing Appellate Briefs

Working with Law Enforcement and Probation Departments.

Preparing and gathering exhibits, subpoenas and other evidence needed for trials or hearings.

Handling some public relation issues

Meeting with officers and victims in preparation for trial.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas. Must be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Experience is preferred but not necessary. Must have knowledge of the rules of evidence and knowledge of the Texas Penal Code and Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.

STARTING SALARY AND BENEFITS

Starting pay is $85,000 to $105,000.00, depending on experience. Benefits includes health insurance, retirement, sick leave, vacation and longevity pay.
