CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Assistant District Attorney
SECTION I – JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of Felony prosecution cases from Intake to Appeal Process in the 32nd Judicial District. In addition, to a dual role assisting the Nolan County Attorney perform a variety of Misdemeanor prosecution cases from Intake to Appeal Process.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports to: District Attorney.
- Directs: DA Investigator(s), Office Administrative Assistants and Victim’s Assistance Coordinator.
- Has constant contact with judges, attorneys, court’s staff, community supervision department, the District Clerk’s office, other county departments and the general public.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF PROSECUTION:
- Intake, prepare Indictments, Plea Offers, Trials, Motions to Revoke, Motions to Proceed, Pre-Trial Motions, and Appeals including but not limited to: Represents the State in criminal jury trials, pre-trial hearings, and status conferences. Presents cases to the Grand Jury. Negotiates dispositions and plea-bargains.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- The Assistant District Attorney is permitted to have their own private practice provided cases do not conflict with the duties as Assistant District Attorney.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
- Communicate with public, law enforcement, attorneys, and other employees in the 32nd Judicial District.
- Maintain a positive cooperative relationship with District Attorney, Court, Investigators, Law Enforcement, peers and other governmental agencies as well as public.
- Understand and follow policies and procedures.
DEPENDABILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Be here every day and able to work.
- Be on time in attendance and for court schedules or meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality of District Attorney’s office.
- Maintain consistent positive outlook in support of County goals and objectives as well as the Judicial District Court.
- Willing to work overtime if needed.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH & PROFESSIONALISM:
- Attend continuing education as required by law and District Attorney’s Office
- Dresses appropriately in office attire, clean well-kept appearance at all times.
SECTION II – JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience is a plus but not necessary. Salary ranges from $60K to 90K plus benefits. Training will be provided and paid for by the Office and the elected 32nd Judicial District Attorney will oversee the training of the candidate in the courtroom. In addition, a company vehicle will be provided by the District Attorney’s Office in order to drive to Nolan, Mitchell and Fisher Counties to perform duties as Assistant D.A.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSE REQUIRED:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
