The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office is currently hiring purpose-driven practitioners ready to serve the citizens of Galveston County. This position requires graduation from an accredited Law School and admitted to the practice of law in the State of Texas. As a candidate for Felony Appellate attorney, two years of experience in the practice of law, litigation, jury trials or closely related experience is also required.

YOUR DUTIES
As a Galveston County Assistant District Attorney Felony Appellate, you will represent the State of Texas and the citizens of Galveston County in criminal proceedings in the District and County Courts of the County. On a daily basis you will be expected to:
- Work as a team player in a collaborative environment
- Interact and consult with Law Enforcement Officers at various stages from a suspect’s arrest through the disposition of the case
- Represents the State in post-conviction appellate matters, including direct appeals, post-conviction writs, and Chapter 64 DNA litigation.
- Prepares notices of appeal, State’s briefs, Petitions for Discretionary Review, post-conviction writ answers, and other responses, motions, and filings to resolve post-conviction matters.
- Represents the State at writ hearings and oral arguments in the First and Fourteenth Court of Appeals and at the Court of Criminal Appeals.
- Conducts legal research on complex legal issues.
- Provides legal research and legal advice to trial attorneys as needed.
- Advises and counsels executive-level employees and assistant criminal district attorneys on legal issues.
- Provides training regarding legal areas, as requested.
- Handles motions for expunction and nondisclosure of records.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Grow professionally as an attorney from in house and formal training, mentoring from supervisors and other experienced attorneys, and the experience you will develop as a prosecutor from the contested hearings and trials you will litigate.
OUR COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary for a felony level prosecutor is a range from $105,000-$125,000 based on experience level and assignment. Opportunities for supplemental pay are available to all attorneys.
