ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY

JOB TITLE:     Assistant District Attorney II

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the prosecution of criminal cases. 

PRIMARY DUTIES:_ ______________________________________

  • Intakes misdemeanor/felony cases; determine if evidence warrants criminal charges; confer with police departments to review search warrants and affidavits; read offense reports and witness statements; prepare charging instruments.
  • Prepare criminal cases for trial; locate and interviews witnesses and victims; gather and review evidence; visit crime scenes; plans jury trials; reviews pertinent case law; creates visual aids; interviews police officers.
  • Represent the state in criminal trials in count and district courts; picks juries, make opening statements, question witnesses, introduce evidence, argue before a judge and jury, and deliver closing arguments.
  • Review criminal cases for appropriate disposition; present cases to Grand Jury; prepare indictments; recommend bonds.
  • Represent the state in motion hearings.
  • Participates and represents the office in community outreach events and civic organizations.
  • Coordinate with community supervision officers with regards to the appropriate terms and conditions of probation, progress of probationers, and issues in regards to revocation, modification, or adjudication of probation.
  • Participate in external training activities.
  • Performs other related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:_____________________________

  • A Juris Doctorate Degree
  • 0-5 years of experience but applicants with more experience are welcome to apply
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Current membership of the State Bar of Texas.

SALARY:_________________________________________________

Grade 23 – Starting Salary Range $73,955 – $81,683/annually, salary will be commensurate with years of experience.

Webb County District Attorney’s office is a member of the TCDRS Retirement System.
