Assistant District Attorney- Misdemeanor

The Grimes County District Attorney’s Office prosecutes felonies and misdemeanors including in the three Justice of the Peace Courts.  This entry level position is responsible for representing the State in the County Court at Law and the Justice of the Peace Courts.

Misdemeanor prosecutors are expected to investigate and evaluate facts involving criminal matters, perform case evaluation & make appropriate charging decisions, prepare legal documents & appellate trial briefs on misdemeanor cases, make plea offers, and review arrest warrants on misdemeanor cases.

Our office operates under a team-oriented philosophy.  Thus, misdemeanor prosecutors work closely with teammates in court, as well as, receiving extensive guidance and training from senior prosecutors within the office, including assisting in the preparation and trial of some felony matters.   The size of our office allows prosecutors to be exposed to a full range of important legal matters quickly, thereby fostering rapid growth and development. 

The prosecutor will be expected to work with cooperatively with law enforcement, contact victims, and work closely with our Crime Victims Coordinator and Crime Victims Liaison to serve our victims.

Salary, Qualifications & Benefits

Salary is $90,000 to $100,000 (based on previous experience).

A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school is required. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Experience in prosecution is preferred, but not required.  

Benefits include: MCLE costs, TDCAA dues, State Bar dues, retirement through TCDRS retirement system, and health insurance.

Community

Grimes County is a growing community  which is approximately 20-30 minutes from College Station/Bryan, home to Texas A & M University.   It is close to Montgomery, Conroe, Magnolia, and The Woodlands Texas via Hwy. 249 Aggie Parkway.   Grimes County is bordered by Walker (Huntsville), Montgomery, Waller, Washington (Brenham), and Madison Counties.   The City of Navasota has become a tourist destination with shops, upscale restaurants & hotel, wine bar, a rooftop bar, and speakeasy in the historical P.A. Smith Hotel.    The town of Anderson is the county seat and the District Attorney’s Office is housed in new justice center which opened in January 2020.
