Assistant District Attorney – Misdemeanor
This entry-level position consists of prosecution of misdemeanor criminal cases on behalf of the State of Texas. Prosecutors are expected to investigate and evaluate criminal matters, make appropriate charging decisions and plea offers, and try cases to juries.
The McLennan County District Attorney’s Office operates under a team-oriented philosophy wherein prosecutors work closely with teammates and receive extensive guidance. Misdemeanor prosecutors also occasionally get to assist in the preparation and prosecution of felony cases. Prosecutor training is a top priority in McLennan County and several of our senior prosecutors also serve as instructors for the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association, the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Center for the Judiciary, and three are adjunct professors at the Baylor Law School.
The McLennan County District Attorney’s Office is a mid-sized office of approximately 35 lawyers with jurisdiction over both felony and misdemeanor criminal matters, as well as juvenile cases. McLennan County’s active trial dockets allow prosecutors the opportunity to quickly gain extensive jury trial experience.
Salary
Entry-level salary is $82,000.

The McLennan County District Attorney’s Office pays prosecutors’ bar dues, dues for approved associations, and costs of approved continuing legal education.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas, or awaiting results from the most recent Texas Bar Exam. Experience in prosecution is preferred, but not required.
