The Bastrop County Criminal District Attorney’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Chief Felony Prosecutor. The position will supervise 3 other felony prosecutors while maintaining its own designated caseload prosecuting violent crimes-i.e., murder, aggravated assault, etc.

The position is also primarily responsible for handling criminal appellate matters for the office.

Salary: Minimum of $110,000 with additional funds available to the highly qualified candidate. Please be prepared to and feel free to discuss your individual salary requirements.

About us: Bastrop County has a population of just under 100,000 and borders Travis County to the east. While part of the rapidly growing central Texas area, Bastrop County still offers a lower cost of living than our larger neighbors, together with a pace and a quality of life that only a rural community can provide-yet we remain close enough to the bright lights of the big city to make for an easy commute if one is so inclined.

The office consists of a total of 10 attorneys, an investigator, a victim/witness coordinator and 6 support staff.  Four of the attorneys practice exclusively in the felony courts. In 2023 the office indicted just under 500 felony cases. We practice in three criminal District Courts (21st, 335th and 423rd), with 2 of the courts being multi-county courts and one being a single county. We generally have a total of 2 criminal dockets per week and had approximately 20 felony jury trial weeks set last year.

The office is looking for an experienced and highly organized trial attorney with an extensive knowledge of criminal law and procedure.

Applicants must be able to assume immediate responsibility for an active caseload and trial docket. Good interpersonal and communication skills, and the desire and the ability to maintain a good working relationship with the County’s law enforcement agencies is a must.
