CLASSIFICATION TITLE: D.A. Investigator

SECTION I – JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of Felony investigations to assist in successful prosecution of cases. 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  1. Reports to:  District Attorney and Chief District Attorney Investigator
  2. Has constant contact with judges, attorneys, court’s staff, community supervision department, the District Clerk’s office, other county departments, law enforcement agencies and the general public.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF PROSECUTION:

  1. Initiate and follow-up on investigations, gathering pertinent information, statements and evidence in support of the assigned Assistant District Attorney, including interviewing and interrogating witnesses and running criminal background checks utilizing NCIC/TCIC, etc. 
  2. Locate, interview and notify witnesses of trial dates by means of serving subpoenas, summons and writs.
  3. Work as a member of a trial team alongside prosecuting attorneys, assisting in organizing, preparing and prosecuting cases, including assisting with jury selection when needed.
  4. Coordinate the collection, preparation and review of the physical evidence for trial, following strict legal requirements for the chain of custody.
  5. Secure the cooperation and attendance of witnesses, coordinating and facilitating travel arrangements when necessary.
  6. Assist in preparing arrest warrants, search warrants, and may make arrests.
  7. Assist in reconstructing events, sequences, and time elements in preparation for criminal prosecution.
  8. Self-Motivated, with the ability to work independently in preparing and organizing cases for disposition.
  9. Testify in Court.
  10. Respond to major crime scenes when requested by the investigating agency, including after hours response.
  11. Provide assistance and expertise to law enforcement agencies investigating criminal offenses.
  12. Provide in court security to prosecutors when necessary.
  13. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  1. Work enforcement within the counties of the 32nd District including Nolan, Mitchell and Fisher Counties.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  1. Communicate with public, law enforcement, attorneys, and other employees in the 32nd Judicial District.
  2. Maintain a positive cooperative relationship with District Attorney, Court, Investigators, Law Enforcement, peers and other governmental agencies as well as public.
  3. Understand and follow policies and procedures.

DEPENDABILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

  1. Be here every day and able to work.
  2. Be on time in attendance and for court schedules or meetings.
  3. Maintain confidentiality of District Attorney’s office.
  4. Maintain consistent positive outlook in support of County goals and objectives as well as the Judicial District Court.
  5. Willing to work overtime if needed.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH & PROFESSIONALISM:

  1. Attend continuing education as required by law and District Attorney’s Office
  2. Dresses appropriately in office attire, clean well-kept appearance at all times.

SECTION II – JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience is preferred.  Salary is based on experience but ranges from $60K to 90K plus benefits.  In addition, a company vehicle will be provided by the District Attorney’s Office for the candidate to perform job duties within the 32nd Judicial District.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

  1. Advanced training or experience regarding Investigative Techniques.
  2. Advanced training or experience in Interview techniques.
  3. Interpersonal Skills with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with diverse group of individuals. 

CERTIFICATES/LICENSE REQUIRED:

  1. Minimum of 30 college hours in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement Field from an accredited college or university.  Advanced TCOLE certification may be considered in lieu of college hours.
  2. Minimum 6 years peace officer experience preferred with a minimum of 1 year investigative experience in a criminal investigations division.     
  3. Must be TCOLE Certified Peace Officer in good standing, proficient in the use of firearms.
  4. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license.
  5. Must be able to pass background investigation, drug testing, physically able to perform duties and psychological evaluation upon request.
