Felony Border Prosecutor

The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s Office is looking for an experienced felony prosecutor who will be assigned to the Border Prosecution Unit.  The office has felony jurisdiction over 5 counties south of San Antonio: Atascosa, Wilson, Frio, Karnes, and LaSalle.  The office is headquartered in Floresville, 30 miles south of San Antonio.

Qualifications: Doctor of Jurisprudence from an accredited law school, licensed to practice law in the State of Texas, and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas; a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in felony prosecution; possess the ability to properly evaluate and prepare cases for prosecution; knowledge and practical use of Word, PowerPoint, and LexisNexis/Westlaw; must be willing to travel within the jurisdiction.

Duties include: Timely handling of assigned cases from intake through trial; evaluating cases for presentation to the grand jury and drafting indictments; discussing cases with probation officers, law enforcement, victims, and witnesses; handling all necessary pre-trial matters including plea-bargain negotiations and evidentiary/suppression hearings; preparing cases for trial by issuing subpoenas, preparing witnesses, filing all necessary motions and notices. 

Applicants should have the desire, temperament, and ability to try cases.  In addition, applicants will be responsible for training and extensive interaction with law enforcement agencies, victims, as well as respond to citizen inquiries regarding legal issues and current cases.

Salary:   Up to $112,000 depending on experience. A vehicle is provided for district travel. The District Attorney’s office pays bar dues, dues for approved associations, travel reimbursement, and approved continuing legal education expenses. You are not required to live in the district.
