Misdemeanor Prosecutor

Job Title: Misdemeanor Prosecutor

Location: Orange County, Texas

Department: District Attorney’s Office

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Position:

We are seeking a principled and committed Misdemeanor Prosecutor to join our office in the pursuit of justice. In this role, you will help ensure that those accused of misdemeanor offenses are held accountable, while also safeguarding the rights of victims, defendants, and the community. This position will handle every aspect of misdemeanor prosecution. You will work directly with victims of crimes, law enforcement, and the community.

Why Join Us:

Our office is large enough to handle complex, high-impact felony cases, yet small enough to foster a tight-knit environment between attorneys and staff. You will not get lost in bureaucracy here — you will be jointly responsible for our County Courts at Law with the other misdemeanor prosecutors. You will have the opportunity to work independently, make a meaningful impact in our community, and work directly with colleagues who care deeply about doing what is right. Our office doors are almost always open, both literally and figuratively. You will have direct access to experienced prosecutors who are eager to answer questions, offer guidance, and support your growth as you develop your skills and judgment in the courtroom.

Benefits:

This position has a base salary of $75,337, and a State Supplement of $20,000 to $25,000, depending on availability of SB22 funds, for a current total compensation package of between $95,337 to $100,337. We also offer 2-1 matching in the TCDRS retirement system, paid CLEs, State Bar of Texas dues, health and dental insurance, and membership to the TDCAA and the Orange County Bar Association.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, file, and prosecute misdemeanor-level cases from intake to trial and appeal.
  • Collaborate with victims, law enforcement, and defense counsel to ensure fair and just outcomes.
  • Conduct legal research, draft motions, and make courtroom appearances for hearings and trials.
  • Exercise sound discretion to seek justice over conviction, balancing accountability with fairness.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all actions and decisions.

Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Be passionate about justice, public service, and community safety.
  • Demonstrate strong trial advocacy and legal analysis skills.
  • Show professionalism, compassion, and sound judgment.
  • Be committed to the rights of all and the integrity of the legal process.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Criminal defense or Prosecution experience preferred, but not required.
