Prosecutor

“Jus est ars boni et aequi.”

Justice is the art of the good and the fair.

Our office is seeking a prosecutor to help ensure that justice is done in Montgomery County.  If you have an interest in:

  1. Making a real difference in people’s lives.
  2. Working with a sense of purpose and meaning.
  3. Trying cases—often—with both skill and integrity.
  4. Working alongside honorable people you genuinely enjoy being around.
  5. Developing significant skills through mentorship, coaching, and innovative training.
  6. Serving as a member of a respected, highly professional organization with an excellent reputation.

Then the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office may be the right place for you.

We are currently accepting applications from licensed attorneys and from those sitting for the February 2026 bar exam.

We also welcome applicants with prior experience in criminal law.  All prosecutors begin in our misdemeanor section, but—based on demonstrated ability and work ethic—advancement to felony work can occur more quickly for those with prior experience.  Several experienced prosecutors have followed this path with excellent results.

Our office is a different kind of place.  Attorneys can be difficult to work with—even as colleagues—and trial work, as rewarding as it is, can be challenging without adequate support.  In response to these realities, we have deliberately built a culture where your peers are genuinely happy for you when you succeed and genuinely supportive when you fall short.

We have also created an environment where your development and your well-being matter.  You will be part of an effort that has real meaning.  We enjoy strong relationships with our law enforcement partners, work before excellent judges at all levels, and provide the resources and opportunities necessary to help you develop to your highest potential—all in a way that is sustainable and allows you to have a life outside the office.

We have ample opportunities to assist appropriate defendants through a variety of specialty courts, but our primary focus is accountability for those who harm others.  We are victim-focused first, and we take seriously the responsibility to impose meaningful consequences on those who hurt others or persist in criminal activity.

If you are interested in working with us, please send your resume to Shelby.schubert@mctx.org.  We will respond promptly, answer any questions you have about the office or the interview process, and keep you informed at every stage.  We will treat you with courtesy and respect throughout.  If you would like a tour of the office at any time, we are happy to arrange one.

The starting salary for this position is $93,998, with opportunities to supplement that amount after your initial 90 days.  County benefits are competitive, and details are available upon request.

This is a very special place.  If you believe prosecution is your calling, we invite you to take a closer look.
