Remote Intake Prosecutor
Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office — Conroe, Texas
Primarily remote | Texas law license required | Salary: $103,253 to $134,245.
“Jus est ars boni et aequi.”
Justice is the art of the good and the fair.
Justice does not keep office hours. Neither do the officers who protect our community.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a prosecutor to handle nighttime intake—a position that requires sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to make consequential decisions when they matter most. We have two shifts available from Monday to Friday: 4 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
If you are interested in meaningful prosecution work, close collaboration with law enforcement, and the flexibility to work primarily from anywhere in the country, we invite you to consider joining our office.
The Work
Our intake prosecutors serve at the front end of the criminal justice process. They help ensure that charges are supported by the facts and the law, that law enforcement is fully supported, and that people are not charged when prosecution is unwarranted.
Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing instanter charges presented by law enforcement over the telephone and deciding whether to accept or refuse them.
- Running and reviewing suspects’ criminal histories.
- Drafting complaints and informations.
- Assisting law enforcement with warrants as needed.
- Communicating charging decisions clearly and professionally.
The Schedule and Remote Work
This is a nighttime position. The prosecutor must be available and responsive throughout assigned overnight shifts.
Initial training and periodic training thereafter will take place in person at our Conroe, Texas, office. Outside those training requirements, the work may be performed primarily remotely from anywhere in the United States, provided the prosecutor remains admitted to practice law in Texas.
This position offers geographic flexibility while carrying substantial responsibility. We are looking for someone who can work independently, remain composed under pressure, and exercise careful judgment with appropriate urgency.
The Right Candidate
We are seeking a Texas-licensed attorney with at least one year of experience with Texas Criminal Law.
The right candidate will understand that supporting law enforcement requires both responsiveness and independent judgment. That means accepting charges when the facts and law support them, asking additional questions when necessary, and declining charges when appropriate.
Strong writing skills, attention to detail, dependability, and respectful communication are essential.
Our Office
We have deliberately built a culture where colleagues support one another, professional development matters, and work has a clear sense of purpose. A prosecutor working remotely will still be part of that team.
We enjoy strong relationships with our law enforcement partners. We are victim-focused, take our obligation to protect the innocent seriously, and believe in meaningful accountability for those who harm others or persist in criminal activity. We expect our prosecutors to exercise their authority with both firmness and fairness.
Compensation and Applying
The salary range is $103,253 to $134,245, depending on experience. There are substantial opportunities for supplemental pay as well. County benefits are competitive, and details are available upon request.
Please send your résumé to Sheri.Mericle@mctx.org. We will respond promptly, answer your questions about the position and schedule, and keep you informed throughout the hiring process. You will be treated with courtesy and respect at every stage.
If prosecution is your calling—and overnight intake fits your strengths and circumstances—we would welcome the opportunity to talk with you.
