Remote Trial Attorney
Ector County District Attorney’s Office
We are seeking a seasoned, trial-ready attorney to join our team in a senior prosecutorial capacity. This remote-eligible position is designed for experienced trial lawyers who can operate with a high degree of autonomy, handle complex felony matters from intake through verdict, and serve as a resource for less experienced attorneys on the team. The position is approximately 80% remote, 20% in office/court.
Primary Duties
A Remote Trial Attorney will manage an assigned felony docket and will be responsible for:
- Independently evaluating cases for indictment and presenting complex matters to the Grand Jury.
- Drafting and arguing motions, pleadings, and correspondence across all stages of prosecution including suppression hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trial.
- Prosecuting serious and complex felony cases through jury trial in District Court, including violent crimes, white collar offenses, and other high-profile matters.
- Serving as lead chair on multi-defendant and multi-count jury trials.
- Advising and mentoring junior ADAs on trial strategy, evidence, and courtroom procedure.
- Managing high-stakes probation revocations, protective orders, and complex bond hearings.
- Collaborating with the District Attorney and division chiefs on case strategy, policy, and office-wide initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate and an active license to practice law in the State of Texas.
- Minimum 10 years of felony trial experience, with a demonstrated record of taking cases to jury verdict.
- Significant first-chair jury trial experience in felony District Court.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with an insurable driving record.
- Ability to appear in person for trial, hearings, and Grand Jury proceedings as required, notwithstanding remote work classification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with capital, homicide, sexual assault, or organized crime prosecutions.
- Supervisory or mentorship experience in a legal setting.
- Familiarity with Texas Rules of Evidence and the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure at an advanced level.
Compensation and Benefits
- Total compensation package: $150,000 – $200,000, commensurate with experience and trial record.
- Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Remote-eligible with flexibility for experienced self-directed attorneys.
- Standard core hours: Monday–Friday, with scheduling flexibility appropriate to senior staff; in-person presence required for court appearances and trial.
Why This Role
This is not an entry-level opportunity. We are looking for a lawyer who has already put cases in front of juries — repeatedly — and who is ready to take on the most serious matters on our docket from day one. If you have the trial miles and want meaningful work without the billable hour pressure of private practice, this position is worth a serious look.
