This course is intended for the investigator who is new to the science of fingerprint identification. Topics will include the history of fingerprint identification, characteristics of friction ridge skin, pattern interpretation, techniques for making comparisons, and methods of obtaining properly recorded inked fingerprints. Instruction will include lecture, practical exercises, and presentations.
Instruction will be delivered by Bexar county Criminal District Attorney Investigator Sylvia Perez. Registered attendees may click here to evaluate the course once it has begun.
Registration is completely FREE. However, TDCAA will not supply lunch or reimburse for travel, meals, or hotel; these costs are your own. Registration is limited to 25 attendees. Registration is only open to our service group – prosecutor office personnel. Should spots become available for attendees outside of TDCAA’s service group, notice will be added to this post.
No certification will be awarded after this course. While we do talk about latent prints and fingerprints, this course does not qualify the attendee as a Ten-Print examiner, nor as a Latent Print Examiner. Successful attendees will earn a certificate of completion. Please see the attached brochure for additional details. The agenda provided is subject to change if necessary to better meet course objectives.
All students must bring magnifiers and pointers.
The Basic Fingerprint Identification course will take place at the Paul-Elizondo-Tower located at 101 W. Nueva, San Antonio, TX 78205. Law enforcement credentials will be required to access training space.
